It slices, it dices and makes soup

Ok we’re about to show our age here so some of you just might have to hit Google and look up Ronco. Ronco was known for two things, coming up with some crazy devices – our two favorites the pocket fisherman and Veg-O-Matic – and equally crazy TV commercials. The Veg-o-Matic sliced, diced and oh my heavens made soup too. We thought of Ronco when we read this from a press release;

“Valeritas Holdings, Inc. (VLRX), a medical technology company and maker of the V-Go® Wearable Insulin Delivery device, which uses their proprietary h-Patch™ technology, announced today positive topline results from a preclinical pharmacokinetic (PK) study. The study evaluated subcutaneous infusion of a GLP-1 analogue via its proprietary h-Patch™ wearable drug delivery device.”

Now some of you might remember this announcement from the company;

“Valeritas Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: VLRX), a medical technology company and maker of the V-Go® Wearable Insulin Delivery device, which uses its proprietary h-Patch™ technology, announced positive data from its preclinical pharmacokinetic (PK) study of apomorphine (APO) subcutaneous infusion was presented today at Global Experts Meeting on Frontiers in Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia (Dementia 2019) in Rome, Italy.”

Or what about this one;

“Valeritas Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: VLRX), a medical technology company and maker of the V-Go® Wearable Insulin Delivery device, which uses its proprietary h-Patch™ technology, announced today data from its preclinical pharmacokinetic (PK) study of cannabidiol (CBD) subcutaneous infusion delivered via its h-Patch™ wearable drug delivery device have been accepted for a poster presentation at the annual CannMed Conference in Pasadena, CA, on September 23-24, 2019. CannMed is an industry conference focused on understanding the medical benefits and complex science of cannabis.”

And just in case anyone has forgotten this amazing technology also delivers insulin.

Listen we do admire the folks at Valeritas as they are jumping on every hot trend they can find. Nope helping insulin using patients stay compliant with their therapy wasn’t good enough. They now want to deliver GLP-1’s, perhaps after the patient gets stoned as this amazing technology can deliver cannabis too.

Frankly we can’t blame them as their stock is only down about 95% over the last year, so what the hell let’s make every outrageous claim they can. Honestly, we have never been a fan of the V-Go or any of these dumb patch pumps which don’t fill any unmet medical need. But why let that stop the toy makers from making more toys. Nope really doesn’t matter much if there is a sustainable profitable business here not when it comes to more useless toys in the toy chest.

Perhaps one day all the toy makers will wake up to the fact that it never has been and never will be about the toys in the toy chest. Perhaps one day they will realize that way cool whiz bang really doesn’t matter all that much. Now we might be a bit old fashioned, but it might just help if the toy makers actually cared about such mundane things like making money. That it helps if there is an actual market for the toys they make.

Oh we should mention that the team at Valeritas came from … wait for it … Sanofi. If that’s not priceless we don’t know what is.
